About Us

Indonesia holds an irreplaceable natural wealth found nowhere else on Earth. Yet, pride alone cannot protect it. Our biodiversity is facing unprecedented threats driven by human greed and ignorance.

Founded in 2020 in Yogyakarta, Endemic Indonesia Society (EIS) was born from the shared concern of a group of biology graduates who realized that education and research must go hand in hand to restore balance between people and nature. At EIS, we believe that conservation means more than protection. Conservation is about giving meaning to nature and ensuring its survival through understanding, awareness, and collaboration.

Our mission is simple yet powerful:

"To conserve Indonesia’s biodiversity through research, education, and community empowerment."

Our Focus

Research: Studying Indonesia’s biodiversity with a focus on endemic and threatened species.

Education: Raising public awareness on the importance of biodiversity conservation through environmental learning.

Community Empowerment: Engaging and empowering local communities as integral partners in conservation efforts.

Our Journey

Since its founding, EIS has led and collaborated on various research and conservation initiatives:

In Search of Rück’s Blue Flycatcher (Cyornis ruckii) in Jambi and North Sumatra (2022–2024)

Black-browed Babbler (Malacocincla perspicillata) Rediscovery Study in East Kalimantan (2024–2025)

Conservation of Javan Endemic Damselfly (Drepanosticta sundana) in Menoreh Hills, Java (2025)

Bird Banding Training and Environmental Seminars

World Migratory Bird Day Celebration (Rising awareness on migratory birds conservation)

Eco-Education Trips (Nature learning experiences based on local wisdom)

These projects were made possible through collaboration with international partners such as The Mohammed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, Oriental Bird Club, ASAP–IUCN, The Rufford Foundation, and the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership, as well as support from national institutions like Gunung Leuser National Park, Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN - National Research and Innovation Agency) , and Yogyakarta State University.
